Trump calls on Senate GOP to ‘get tough’ and confirm the rest of his Cabinet

President Donald Trump demanded that Senate Republicans “get tough very fast” in confirming the rest of his Cabinet, stressing that it is for the “safety” of the country.

As of Sunday evening, eight of Trump’s nominees have been confirmed, with more confirmation votes set to be held soon. On Truth Social, Trump blamed Democrats for “purposefully delaying” the confirmation process, accusing them of “having a good time at the Country’s expense and safety.”

“If George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were nominated for a position, the Democrats would take it out to the last moment before having to approve,” Trump said. “It is disgraceful! They can’t get over the landslide loss suffered in the Presidential Election. But the Democrats don’t understand, with what they’re doing, that their losses will only get greater. Republicans must GET TOUGH — AND MUST GET TOUGH VERY FAST.”

Trump also called for the nominees to get confirmed immediately “for the Safety and Good of our Country!”

Last week, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) argued that Senate Republicans are “ahead of schedule” in confirming Trump’s Cabinet nominees, citing how the confirmation process is going much faster compared to Trump’s first term, in which it took 43 days to confirm the first 12 nominees. Thune also called for a return to “the Obama standard” in confirming presidential nominees, as former President Barack Obama had his first 12 nominees confirmed within his first 15 days in office.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said on Sunday that the Senate is expecting to conduct five more confirmation votes this week. One of those will be for Pam Bondi, Trump’s nominee for attorney general.
