White House Report Card: Even Obama supporters like what Trump’s doing – Washington Examiner
The article titled “white house Report Card: Even Obama Supporters like What Trump’s Doing” discusses the recent favorable evaluations of President Donald Trump’s performance in his early weeks in office. According to a poll by Democratic pollster John Zogby, Trump is gaining support from younger voters and parents—key demographics of the Obama coalition. This shift indicates a surprising trend where customary supporters of obama are backing Trump’s policies.
The piece highlights various accomplishments attributed to Trump, including the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran, military actions against ISIS,and a push for border security with agreements from Mexico and Panama. Conservative graders, including zogby and Jed Babbin, give Trump grades of B- and A- respectively. Zogby’s commentary points to a mixed public opinion, with Trump’s approval sitting at 49%,suggesting stability but also a potential loss of chance to build a broader base.
the report card reflects a complex political landscape where Trump’s actions are garnering unexpected support while also facing meaningful opposition on humanitarian grounds, particularly regarding controversial policies in Gaza. As the article concludes, the political climate remains charged with both support and criticism around Trump’s administration.
White House Report Card: Even Obama supporters like what Trump’s doing
This week’s White House Report Card finds that President Donald Trump continues to be on quite a roll in his third week. And the proof is that the storied “Obama coalition” of modern voters likes what it is seeing.
Report card grader and Democratic pollster John Zogby found that younger voters and parents that made up a lot of the Obama coalition support the Republican.
“Our new John Zogby Strategies poll this week shows the president making even more gains among groups that represent the Obama coalition,” he said. That group includes Hispanics and black voters.
FULL LIST OF EXECUTIVE ORDERS, ACTIONS, AND PROCLAMATIONS TRUMP HAS MADE AS PRESIDENT
His son and pollster Jeremy Zogby said in releasing their new poll, “The president scores high among parents raising children — a voting bloc that largely corresponds with millennials who have now entered their 30s and 40s — the same group who helped carry President Obama’s victory in 2008. That amounts to a generational flip since the president’s first term when those older than 65 were a major source of Trump’s support.”

Conservative grader Jed Babbin also said that Trump is doing well in his third week. As he’s done in the first two weeks of evaluating Trump, he listed the president’s actions and achievements and it is quite a list.
And besides all the executive orders flying out of the White House, Trump has been pushing boundaries, from his idea of turning Gaza into a Middle East “Riviera” to Friday’s call for a balanced budget.

Grade: B-
First, the good news. If you haven’t gotten an aneurysm in the first three weeks of following the actions of President Donald Trump, you are likely to be okay.
A reminder that my grades and my views cannot get in the way of each other. The fact is that as appalling as are the recent actions at the border, shutting down USAID and next the Department of Education, pulling out of and defunding of UNRWA, offering buyouts and early retirement to up to two million federal workers, investigating Justice Department and FBI personnel because they pursued justice toward Jan. 6 riot participants and planners, and winning the release of Treasury records to an unelected/unapproved hatchet man, they can only be stopped temporarily by judges.
Angst and chaos are the natural by-products. Perhaps the most horrific of all is the U.S.-licensed genocide and ethnic cleansing of Gaza, which pretty much the whole world opposes.
But my day job as a pollster tells me a different thing. Trump has an approval rating of 49% and disapproval at 48%. This represents almost the exact margin he won the national popular vote. It means that he and his opposition have neither gained or lost ground. From the vantage point of the Oval Office, it means that his honeymoon and first three weeks have been squandered because he has not used the time to build a majority.
But on the Democratic side, it also means that they represent a confused mess who cannot agree on what to say except that they oppose Trump. Even better for the president — and hence worse for the Democrats — is that our new John Zogby Strategies poll this week shows the president making even more gains among groups that represent the Obama coalition.

Grade: A- (Because tariffs are almost never a good idea.)
The Trump Tsunami continues to roll over the world from the NCAA to the Gaza Strip. It was another great week for President Donald Trump in which there wasn’t any slowing of the pace in undoing former President Joe Biden’s mess.
Trump, in no particular order:
- Re-impose his “maximum pressure” sanctions on Iran. The Biden administration cuddled up with the ayatollahs but that has come to an end. Trump won’t — and shouldn’t — give the world’s principal sponsor of terrorism a break.
- Sanctioned the International Criminal Court for investigating Americans and issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
- Ordered air strikes on ISIS targets in Somalia.
- Imposed tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada, only to see Canada and Mexico back down almost instantly, which caused Trump to pause those tariffs. China imposed retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods and Trump didn’t suspend the tariffs on China. Canada will do better on border security. Mexico will station 10,000 troops at the border to help with security and will take back any of its citizens who entered the U.S. illegally.
- Got Venezuelan dictator Nicholas Maduro to release about half of the U.S. hostages he held and agreed to take back his citizens, including the hyper-violent Tren de Aragua gang members, some of whom already are residents of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
- Won El Salvador’s offer to take and imprison any illegal immigrants regardless of nationality.
- Persuaded Panama to quit the Chinese “Belt and Road Initiative,” under which the Chinese could have taken control of the waterway.
- Got the NCAA to back his order banning biological men from women’s sports.
- Signed an executive order requiring that 10 regulations be repealed for each new one put out.
- Canceled Biden’s ban on oil drilling on federal land.
Trump’s biggest proposal was to take control of Gaza and rebuild it into another Riviera. To do so, he said he would temporarily evict its 2.2 million residents. The problem with this plan is that no surrounding nation — Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia — will accept the Hamas-hiding Palestinians, even temporarily. Saudi Arabia said they wouldn’t make a peace deal with Israel unless there was a Palestinian state created.
