Whitmer consoles Democrats with ‘anxiety’ over Trump: ‘Stay engaged’
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) posted a social media video on Monday to ease the “anxiety” of Michiganders living under a Trump administration.
“Over the past couple weeks, I’ve been talking to a lot of Michiganders all across our state. In those conversations, I’ve heard a lot of people ask: ‘What are we supposed to do?’” she said in an X post on Monday.
“There’s a lot of anxiety, fear, and anger,” she lamented.
Things feel uncertain right now—I hear you. But here’s what I know: Michiganders are tough. We show up for each other. And no matter what’s thrown our way, we find a way forward.

“Let’s not forget that we have been here before. When I first took office on 2019, it was Donald Trump’s first term and we had a Republican-controlled Michigan legislature,” she continued.
“And even with those odds, we got a lot of important stuff done,” she said in the social media video.
The Michigan governor said that there are now “attacks on LGBTQ+ community, reproductive freedoms, and economic stability.”
She touted how in Michigan, she had “expanded protections for the LGBTQ+ community and passed laws expanding reproductive rights.”
Whitmer claimed in a Trump era that she would do “everything” in her power to “protect your families, your rights, and your wallets.”
She went on to encourage Michiganders to call their “representatives in Congress” if they are dissatisfied with what is happening in Washington or contact their state legislators in Lansing.
The governor also called on activists to call the White House. She then provided the phone number for the White House in another social media post.
She concluded her message by saying citizens should “stay engaged.”
Her message came the same day she called for a $3 billion proposal to fix Michigan roads by raising corporate taxes and adding additional 32% wholesale tax on marijuana products in the state. In her new plan, she promised to go after “big tech industries,” such as Amazon for wearing down the roads in the state.
