President donald Trump has announced his appointments to the Council of Governors, which consists of ten state leaders—five Republicans and five Democrats. The council, established to enhance state-federal collaboration on national security, disaster response, and military coordination issues, includes republican Governors Ron desantis (FL), Brian Kemp (GA), Jeff Landry (LA), Henry McMaster (SC), and Glenn Youngkin (VA), with Youngkin serving as co-chair. Democratic Governors Kathy Hochul (NY), Wes Moore (MD), Gretchen Whitmer (MI), Josh Shapiro (PA), and Josh Stein (NC) were also appointed, with Stein as co-chair. Originally created by President George W. Bush and formalized by President Barack Obama, the council aims to promote cooperation among state governments on critical issues, including disaster response and military integration, and also focuses on cybersecurity partnerships and federal budget considerations.Each governor will serve a two-year term on the council.

President Donald Trump announced his appointments to his administration’s Council of Governors on Wednesday.
The council consists of ten governors, five Republicans and five Democrats. The announcement was made in a release on the White House website.
“Today, President Donald J. Trump announced new appointments to the Council of Governors, a bipartisan group of state leaders tasked with strengthening state-federal partnerships on key national security, disaster response, and military coordination issues,” read the announcement.
Govs. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Brian Kemp (R-GA), Jeff Landry (R-LA), Henry McMaster (SC), and Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) were the Republicans on the council. Youngkin was named co-chair of the group. Govs. Kathy Hochul (D-NY), Wes Moore (D-MD), Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Josh Shapiro (D-PA), and Josh Stein (D-NC) were the Democrats appointed. Stein was also named co-chair of the committee.
The Council of Governors was established by then-President George W. Bush through the National Defense Authorization Act 2008. In 2010, President Barack Obama formally created the council through an executive order, noted the release.
Its purpose is to promote synergy among a bipartisan panel of the nation’s governments to foster collaboration and cooperation on responses for vital issues such as national disaster responses, deployments and other operations for the National Guard, and “military integration within the states.”

Additionally, the Council of Governors aids in constructing cybersecurity partnerships and offers input regarding “federal budgetary considerations.”
Each governor appointed to the council serves a term of two years.
