The Senate is scheduled to vote on kash Patel’s nomination to lead the Federal Bureau of Examination (FBI) at 1:45 PM.Patel, a loyalist to former President Donald Trump, has faced criticism due to perceived biases against the FBI. He has been accused of politicizing the agency, particularly regarding investigations related to the January 6 Capitol riot. To be confirmed, Patel can only afford to lose the support of three republican senators. Senator Susan collins (R-ME) has announced her opposition, citing Patel’s past politically charged statements that raise concerns about his ability to lead the FBI impartially. Collins emphasized that these comments, along with a questionnaire sent to FBI employees, undermine Patel’s potential to fulfill the law enforcement mission without political influence.

The Senate is voting on Kash Patel to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation at 1:45 p.m.
As a Trump loyalist, Patel’s nomination has been highly critical of the agency being weaponized against President Donald Trump. The president has suggested agents that investigated the January 6 Capitol riot will be fired.
Patel, who previously served as the Chief of Staff to Acting Secretary of Defense Christoper Miller, can only afford to lose the vote of three Republican senators to be confirmed.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said she would be voting against Patel, pointing out that Patel has failed to show his apolitical attitude toward the FBI.
“Mr. Patel has made numerous politically charged statements in his book and elsewhere discrediting the work of the FBI, the very institution he has been nominated to lead,” Collins said in a statement. “These statements, in conjunction with the questionnaire sent to thousands of FBI employees, cast doubt on Mr. Patel’s ability to advance the FBI’s law enforcement mission in a way that is free from the appearance of political motivation.”
