Kash Patel to serve as acting head of ATF: Reports – Washington Examiner
Kash Patel, who was recently sworn in as the FBI Director, will also assume the role of acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), according to reports. Patel is expected to be officially sworn in for the ATF position early next week. This follows the recent firing of the ATF’s chief legal counsel, Pamela Hicks, by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. Patel’s dual leadership roles come after a narrow Senate confirmation for his position at the FBI, which was approved with a 51-49 vote. The situation is still developing and may evolve further.
Kash Patel to serve as acting head of ATF: Reports
FBI Director Kash Patel, who was just sworn in to lead the nation’s top law enforcement agency on Friday, will also be serving as the acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to multiple reports.
ABC News reported that he will be sworn in early next week, citing an unnamed official within the Department of Justice.
Patel’s expected lead of the ATF follows U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s firing of the agency’s chief legal counsel, Pamela Hicks, on Thursday. Hicks served in that role under the Biden administration and was deputy chief counsel of the agency during President Donald Trump’s first administration.
The announcement that Patel will be leading another agency also comes after a contentious confirmation process for him to lead the FBI. He was narrowly confirmed earlier this week in a 51-49 vote in the Senate.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
