Philadelphia Eagles to skip White House visit following Super Bowl win: Report
The Philadelphia Eagles are likely to skip their White House visit after winning the Super Bowl.
An invitation to be hosted by President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., was already rejected, according to the U.S. Sun. This would be a repeat of when the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018 and Trump did not invite them to the White House.
Offensive tackle Lane Johnson had said it would be a “team decision” for whether the Eagles would visit the White House if invited. Ahead of their win, quarterback Jalen Hurts gave a lukewarm response to the news that Trump would be the first sitting president to attend the big game.
“He’s welcome to do what he wants,” Hurts said. Hurts’s comments came across as apathetic when compared to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce calling Trump’s attendance a “great honor.”
Trump congratulated the Chiefs online after the team won its third straight AFC championship, but he remained silent on the Eagles winning the NFC championship. During the Super Bowl, Trump left early when it was clear the Eagles would beat the Chiefs.
The Washington Examiner contacted the White House for comment.
SUPER BOWL HALFTIME CAST MEMBER BANNED FOR LIFE FOR UNFURLING FLAG MID-PERFORMANCE
In 2018, Trump held an event in which the United States Marine Band and the Army Chorus performed the national anthem on the White House South Lawn. Trump sang along with his hand over his heart and encouraged all to stand for the national anthem, an obvious slight to the league, which was dealing with players kneeling for the anthem across the season. None of the Eagles knelt during any game that season or since.
Former first lady Jill Biden, who is known for her love of the Eagles, attended the game in 2023, when the Eagles lost to the Chiefs. Earlier in the same season, fans booed her at Lincoln Financial Field at the end of a pregame in October. On that day, she attended the Eagles game against the Dallas Cowboys as part of the NFL’s cancer initiative, called the “Crucial Catch” campaign. Before the game, she met with cancer patients, survivors, and their families.
