Trump: ‘The People Elected Me To Do The Job, And I’m Doing It.’

When they weren’t booing or hissing or pinking or being thrown out for being obnoxious twits, Democrats were forgetting what their political lord and savior, President Barack Obama, said so many years ago: “Elections have consequences.” 

The vanguard of the left’s recycled “resistance” against Trump 2.0 showed up Tuesday to President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress to show America that they’re nowhere near adult enough to lead and that, again, they’ve learned nothing from November’s election. They have spent the first 43 days of Trump’s second term on a pout-drunk bender, whining and wailing that the president is doing what he said he would do. Imagine that: A politician who keeps his promises. Yes, it’s a foreign concept to the liars, cheaters, grifters, and killers in the swamp, but you would think that after all this time they would take Trump at his word. 

Of course Democrats and Never Trumpers are more infuriated with leftism-fatigued Americans for electing the guy they firmly believed they could silence, imprison, or murder before Election Day 2024. But they had to take their temper-tantrum out on Trump.

In a take-no-prisoners speech from a president whose determination was steeled by political witch hunts and bullets, Trump reminded the minority party and waffling Republicans that Mr. Obama was right. Elections do indeed have consequences. And Trump won. 

“The people elected me to do the job, and I’m doing it,” the president said to applause from his fellow Republicans and catcalls from congressional Democrats. Hissing was about all these political kitties could do as Trump detailed an ambitious and effective start to his second presidency and looked ahead to what’s next. 

‘All We Really Needed Was a New President’

Arguably near the top of the long list of accomplishments in his first month and a half is bringing back a southern border and dramatically staunching the flood of illegal immigrants that invaded the United States during Trump’s predecessor’s presidency. 

“Since taking office, my administration has launched the most sweeping border and immigration crackdown in American history. And we quickly achieved the lowest numbers of illegal border crossers ever recorded,” he said. Many of the same Democrats that endorsed the illegal immigration insanity of the previous four years looked on grumpily in their seats.

“The media and our friends in the Democrat Party kept saying we needed new legislation. We must have legislation to secure the border. But it turned out that all we really needed was a new president,” Trump crowed. It wasn’t merely a boast. 

Immediately upon his return to the White House, Trump declared a national emergency to deal with the border crisis he inherited from the Biden-Harris administration. And Trump is taking on the drug cartels that have pushed deadly drugs, murderous gangs, and exploited children through the nation’s gates.  

Illegal border crossings plummeted last month to the lowest mark in decades, corporate media outlet Axios reported Tuesday. U.S. Border Patrol agents recorded some 8,300 apprehensions of immigrants crossing illegally at the southern border, compared to 29,100 encounters in January and more than 47,000 in December. There were nearly 190,000 illegal immigrant encounters in February 2024 and north of 156,000 during the same month in 2023, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. 

A CBS/YouGov poll released last weekend shows a majority of respondents (54%) approve of Trump’s handling of immigration, with 46 percent opposed. And 59 percent support the Trump administration’s policy of tracking and deporting illegal immigrants. Voters consistently ranked the border crisis among the top issues ahead of November’s election. 

Trump also campaigned on going after flagrant waste of taxpayer dollars in the federal government. He created the Department of Government Efficiency — DOGE — overseen by business/tech savant Elon Musk. 

“Perhaps you’ve heard of it,” Trump quipped. DOGE has been the talk of Washington, D.C., and the nation as the Trump administration goes about the business of exposing and excising criminally wasteful spending in the government. 

Leftists have made defending waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer money a rallying cry. Congressional Dems sat a little harder on their hands, many loudly complaining Tuesday when Trump detailed the early successes of Musk and DOGE. 

For those who may have missed DOGE’s many announcements on waste removal, Trump delightedly read a long list of some of the more egregious examples of federal government spending. 

$22.6 billion from the Department of Health and Human Services between 2020 and 2024 for grants to illegal and legal immigrants, covering everything from vehicle purchases to homes and business start-up costs. 

› $45 million for diversity, equity and inclusion scholarships in Burma. 

› $40 million to improve the social and economic inclusion of sedentary migrants. “Nobody knows what that is,” the president added. 

$60 million in funding for indigenous peoples and Afro-Colombian empowerment in Central America.

Of course, there’s more. Much more. The point is, no one should be surprised — gaslighting Democrats in particular — that Trump has delivered on his campaign promise not only to create DOGE but to immediately make it impactful. No one should feign indignant disbelief that the candidate who campaigned on right-sizing the bloated federal government is actually doing it. 

Nor should anyone be stunned that the Republican who survived the full force of the government weaponized against him would come through on his intent to clean up a Department of Justice and FBI led by some of the most repugnant people in this republic’s history. Trump has long said he would as president push a peace deal that would end the slaughter of the forever war in Ukraine. No one should be shocked Trump did just that via a come-to-Jesus meeting with actor/comedian/ingrate President Volodymyr Zelensky about the realities of the state of play.

But the left’s new-and-confused resistance wants Americans to believe that Trump, who won a convincing victory over a facile Democrat opponent, doesn’t have the right to enact and push for policies that Americans voted for. 

The party that lost badly in November because of their incompetence, arrogance, and authoritarianism still may not get why they are no longer in power, but some very important people — invited guests of the president — at Tuesday evening’s address do: Family members of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Jonathan Diller, and D.J. Daniel

Of course, the congressional Democrats who didn’t storm out, some sour-faced women in matching pink protest outfits, and others holding up stupid signs, didn’t have enough decency to pull themselves up out of their seats when the president recognized victims of horrific crimes at the hands of illegal immigrants, a police officer shot in the line of duty, or a 13-year-old boy battling brain cancer.  

Perhaps — although not likely — their constituents will hold them accountable at the polls for their petulance and pettiness. As they should know by now, elections do have consequences.
