Earle-Sears blasts Spanberger as Virginia gubernatorial race heats up – Washington Examiner

In the Virginia gubernatorial race, Republican nominee winsome Earle-Sears, who is also the state’s Lieutenant Governor, has launched a direct attack on her Democratic opponent, former Rep. Abigail Spanberger. Earle-Sears criticized Spanberger on social media, claiming that electing her would be detrimental to Virginia, referencing her support for President Biden’s considerable financial packages, which she argues have led to inflation and increased expenses for Virginians. This election is notable as Earle-Sears is the first Black woman nominated by a major party for the governor’s office in Virginia, and if elected, Virginia could see its first female governor. The primary elections are set for June 17, 2025, with the general election on November 4, 2025. The dynamics of this race are considered vital not only for Virginia but also for national political trends.

Earle-Sears blasts Spanberger as Virginia gubernatorial race heats up

Republican gubernatorial nominee Winsome Earle-Sears, Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor, wasted no time attacking her Democratic opponent, former Rep. Abigail Spanberger, in a fiery post on social media Monday.

“Electing @SpanbergerForVA is like asking the arsonist to put out the fire,” Earle-Sears wrote on X. “She voted for: Biden’s $1.9T ‘Rescue Plan’ – sparking historic inflation, $2T Build Back Better, and $1.5T Green New Deal-style handouts.”

Earle-Sears continued, “Virginians can’t afford more of her ‘solutions.’”

The lieutenant governor is the GOP’s nominee for Virginia governor after former state Senator Amanda Chase and former Delegate Dave LaRock failed to secure enough signatures to make it onto the ballot. She will face Spanberger, the only Democrat running for the state’s top job, in this fall’s highly anticipated race.

Virginia and New Jersey hold statewide elections, including the gubernatorial contest, in the year following a presidential election, making this race an important focal point for national attention. Virginia’s governor’s race is often seen as a bellwether for the party in power in Washington.

This election is already making history in the Commonwealth. Earle-Sears is the first black woman to receive a major party nomination for Virginia governor. With Spanberger as her opponent, Virginia is poised to elect its first female governor.

In a statement, the Virginia GOP congratulated Earle-Sears on securing the Republican nomination: “The Republican Party of Virginia congratulates Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears on becoming the Republican nominee for Governor of Virginia. As the sole candidate to qualify for the Republican primary ballot on June 17th, Sears will be the Republican Party’s nominee for Governor on the November 4th ballot.”
