In the first quarter of the year, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) raised $32.2 million, marking the largest quarterly fundraising total for a Republican House speaker during a midterm cycle. This notable figure follows the Republican Party’s consolidation of power in Washington. Johnson’s team emphasized the strong financial backing, which supports their agenda to maintain Republican control in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. He has positioned himself as a meaningful fundraiser within the House, previously ranking as the second-highest for the last election cycle. Additionally, he contributed $5 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and $4 million to GOP incumbents as part of his strategy to secure a majority for the party.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) raised $32.2 million during the first quarter of the year after Republicans assumed a trifecta in Washington.
Johnson’s team stated in a press release sent out Monday morning that the figure is his largest quarterly fundraising total yet as House speaker and the largest for a Republican speaker during a midterm cycle.
“After we successfully defended our majority in 2024, the American people are enthusiastic about keeping House Republicans on offense in 2026,” Johnson said.
“While we deliver our commonsense America First agenda, we are also building a massive campaign war chest by hitting the ground running in the first quarter,” he continued.
These numbers come after the National Republican Congressional Committee brought in $35.2 million last week at the annual president’s dinner, which President Donald Trump spoke at.
“Next year, we’ll do $45 [million] or $50 million, right?” Trump said at the dinner.
Johnson was the second-highest fundraiser in the House for the last election cycle, coming in about $3 million behind House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Overall, House and Senate Democrats outraised Republicans but ultimately lost the Senate and failed to win back the House.
The Louisiana Republican transferred $5 million to the NRCC and $4 million to GOP incumbents last month as the party looks to maintain its majority in the 2026 midterm elections.

The NRCC reported raising $9.2 million in February, compared to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s $11.1 million.
Jeffries’s quarter-one fundraising numbers have not been released, and his office did not reply to the Washington Examiner for comment.
