Jeffries’s comment comes as Hogg shared he intends to use his organization, Leaders We Deserve, to spend $20 million to fund younger Democratic candidates running against incumbents in safe blue districts. 

Through this effort, Hogg said he intends to encourage older incumbents to decide not to run for reelection.

“We don’t want to pick unnecessary fights, but we’re willing to do that if our approval rating continues to be at this rate,” Hogg told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “We are here to find the most effective young people in our country, truly generational leaders, and replace people that are failing to meet the moment right now, that we hope step aside.”

A recent Gallup poll reflects that Democratic leadership possesses the lowest approval rating in decades, as 25% of respondents expressed confidence in the Democratic Party’s leadership, which lacks a clear leader.

Former DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile warned Hogg that his decision to fund challengers in safe blue states could knock off minority and women leadership.

“My position is many of these so-called safe blue seats, and I can get in trouble, many of them are seats that women and minorities finally had an opportunity to come and sit in because there were no seats at the table for us,” Brazile said. “So before you start wiping clean the menu and the plates and the seats, be very careful.”
