Russia confirms North Korean troops fighting Ukraine as Trump’s patience with Putin wears thin – Washington Examiner

Recent reports reveal that Russia has officially confirmed the presence of North Korean troops fighting alongside its forces in Ukraine. This marks the first acknowledgment by Russian officials of North Korean soldiers participating in the ongoing conflict. Previously, captured North Korean soldiers had been reported, but both Russian and North Korean officials had not addressed their involvement in combat. The proclamation comes amid growing frustration from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Russia’s conduct in the war, particularly after a deadly attack on Kyiv. During discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin and suggested that further U.S. negotiations for peace might be reconsidered if progress is not made.

Russia confirms North Korean troops fighting Ukraine as Trump’s patience with Putin wears thin

Russian officials confirmed for the first time publicly that North Korean soldiers have been fighting alongside them in the war in Ukraine, as U.S. President Donald Trump shows his patience is running thin with Russia on peace talks in Ukraine.

North Korean soldiers had been captured by Ukrainian forces earlier this year, with the captured soldiers unwilling to defect from North Korea despite offers from Ukraine. Russian and North Korean officials had been mum on whether those soldiers had been fighting in Ukraine.

In a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin from Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, published by Russian state media, the use of North Korean soldiers was disclosed.

“I want specially to note the participation of servicemen of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” Gerasimov said in the statement, which claimed they had repelled Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region.

The statement comes the same day Trump talked with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Vatican City, in what were described as positive talks. Trump also expressed his frustration with Putin, after earlier this week calling on him to stop attacks after a deadly attack on Kyiv.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE BATTLE FOR RUSSIA’S KURSK REGION

“With all of that being said, there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions?’ Too many people are dying!!!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trump and U.S. officials have been working on a peace deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, but have warned they could walk away from the process if there is no progress.
