Byron Donalds mocks Democratic Party ‘mess’ leading to GOP converts in Florida

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) noted that Florida Democratic lawmakers have had “enough” of their party, prompting them to change their political affiliation.

State Sen. Jason Pizzo was the third lawmaker to leave the Democratic Party since November’s election. Pizzo was the state Senate minority leader at the time. Reps. Hillary Cassel and Susan Valdes also switched parties earlier this year. As a result, Florida House Republicans have earned a supermajority of 87-33.

“Well, what’s going on is the Democrats here in Florida have been soundly defeated,” Donalds said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures. “The Democrats have no message, they have no leader. They really don’t know where to go. And then you have the radical nature in their party, the antisemitism, which you’ve already talked about, the fact that they have judges who are willing to stand up for illegal aliens over the American people. Their party is a mess. It is massively divided. And so what you’re seeing here is Democrats in our state are saying enough is enough.”

Meanwhile, Donalds outlined Republican strategy including “deregulation” and “energy dominance.”

Donalds declared his candidacy for Florida governor rather than running for reelection in the House of Representatives in 2026.

Florida will likely keep the Republican majority in both the state’s House and Senate. Florida’s Senate now has 28 Republican senators and 11 Democratic senators.
