On Sunday, U.S. airports saw the highest number of travelers in a single day since the start of the pandemic. On Monday, the TSA reported a little over 1.5 million passengers had been screened Sunday, which marked the most air travelers since March of 2020.

Sunday was also the 11th consecutive day of checkpoints, which saw more than one million passengers. Experts said the numbers indicate air travel will be booming by summer, even though the CDC has continued to advise against travel.

However, Sunday’s figure still falls short of the pre-pandemic levels of 2019 by about 700,000 travelers when compared to the same date.
