San Fran Schools VP Who Was Sanctioned For Anti-Asian Tweets Sues District For ‘Spiritual Damage’
Alison Collins, the San Francisco school board vice president who refused to resign over anti-Asian tweets, is now reportedly suing the school district, the city of San Francisco, and a number of school board commissioners for “spiritual damage” and “emotional distress” because she met with discipline for her comments.
Collins, the Daily Wire reported in March, made a number of anti-Asian remarks on Twitter in 2016, calling Asian-Americans to “house n*****rs” for supporting President Donald Trump and accusing Asian Americans of adopting “white supremacist” thinking and portraying themselves as “model minorities” to earn the favor of white Californians.
“Where are the vocal Asians speaking up against Trump? Don’t Asian Americans know they are on his list as well? Do they think they won’t be deported? profiled? beaten? Being a house n****r is still being a n****r. You’re still considered “the help,” Collin’s tweeted in 2016, during another school board dispute.
Although a number of board members, including several Asian Americans, called on Collins to resign her seat, she refused, instead claiming that the tweets were “taken out of context” and misrepresented. She offered only a tepid apology, and the school board president took her side.
“A number of tweets and social media posts I made in 2016 have recently been highlighted. They have been taken out of context, both of that specific moment and the nuance of the conversation that took place,” Collins said in a post to Medium after the story broke.
Now, according to Twitter sleuths, Collins is suing the school board, the city, and several prominent school board members — including at least one Asian American school board member who called on her to resign — for $12 million each in damages resulting from “emotional distress” and “spiritual damage” among other incalculable, as well as $3 million each in punitive damages.
“Alison Collins, the SF school board commissioner who was stripped of her committee appointments after calling insufficiently woke Asian Americans ‘house n*****s,’ is now suing the board & five board members for $15 million EACH for “severe emotional distress,” among other things,” according to a Twitter commentator, citing the lawsuit.
“According to Collins’ complaint, ‘$12,000,000.00 will only tip the scale in the direction of injustice,’ and ‘to protect the public from the gross misuse of governmental power’ she must be awarded an addition $3 million from each defendant in punitive damages,” the user continued. “Again, Collins believes she’s owed in excess of $60 million because she was stripped of her VP title and committee appointments — but NOT removed from the board — after she tweeted a racial slur against a community 35% of the district’s students belong to.”
Collins, of course, was not removed from the school board. She was merely censured and stripped of her committee memberships. That small gesture, though, is, according to Collins’ complaint, enough to cause “spiritual injury to her soul” that she will suffer “in perpetuity, for the rest of her life.”
“DEFENDANTS, and each of them, caused MS. COLLINS to suffer, in perpetuity, for the rest of her life the following harms, injuries, losses, and damages: Pain, inconvenience, severe mental distress, severe emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, humiliation, harm to self-image, injury to career, spiritual injury to her soul, fear, discomfort, misery, anxiety, and suffering,” she wrote.
The school district has not yet responded to Collins’ suit.
