Harry And Meghan Will Take ‘Proper Time Off’ After Baby, Plan ‘Real Quality Time’ Away
Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have only recently inked deals for real employment following their decision to step down as working members of the royal family, but they are already planning an extended break, clearing their busy schedules following the birth of their daughter this summer.
“They will both take some proper time off,” a source told Vanity Fair of the couple’s plans. “It will be the summer and they want to make sure they both take their leave so they have some real quality time together once the baby arrives.”
The plan, the magazine notes, is a direct consequence of the events surrounding their son, Archie’s birth in 2019. At the time, the pair were still working royals and they were forced to get back to their jobs within weeks of welcoming the seventh in line to the throne.
“When Archie was born, Harry’s paternity leave was cut short just days after the birth when he flew to the Netherlands for a work commitment, while Meghan was hard at work during her pregnancy and after Archie’s birth, editing an issue of British Vogue and designing a capsule collection for Smart Works,” the outlet reported.
“When their daughter arrives, she will be eighth in line to the throne, after Harry’s father Prince Charles, older brother Prince William and his three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Harry himself, and her older brother Archie,” Fox News added.
This time, though, the plan appears to be to take it easy, holed up in their multi-million dollar Montecito mansion, where they have pledged to “live authentically” among the Hollywood elite.
There will, of course, be plenty to keep them busy. The nearly-19,000 square foot home, has nine bedrooms, sixteen bathrooms, and a two-bedroom guest house, a tennis court, a pool, a “tea house,” and a chicken coop for rescue chickens.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the duo did fret that they would soon be destitute following news that Prince Hary’s father, Prince Charles, had “cut off” the pair financially after they officially split from the royal family and that Harry and Meghan were being forced to find new ways of affording their tony lifestyle (beyond what inheritance he received from his late mother’s estate, and her million-dollar residuals).
Prince Harry recently announced that he accepted the job of “Chief Impact Officer” at a Silicon Valley mental health startup, BetterUp, which offers therapy and coaching, mostly to corporate clients. Although he is working remotely, Harry is “expected to have input into initiatives including product strategy decisions and charitable contributions, and advocate publicly on topics related to mental health,” as well as ensure that the startup does, indeed, have an impact on society.
The pair have also inked a number of media deals, including a “multiyear deal with Netflix to produce documentaries, series, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s programming,” per the Observer. The Netflix contract reportedly worth around $100 million. The pair also struck a multi-year deal to release exclusive podcasts and audio content on Spotify.
