VIDEO: Teacher Berates Student For White Privilege, Threatens Parents For Questioning Her: ‘Come At Me!’
Video has gone viral of a California teacher berating a white male student for his apparent “white privilege” and threatening parents who dare question her teaching methods, saying, “Come at me!”
In compiled video posted to social media, San Marcos High School teacher Alissa Piro admonishes a student for asking why there is not a white student union club, arguing that it’s racist to have clubs limited to racial identity while also excluding white people from having their own club, too.
Piro loses control in the video, screaming at the junior named Jace for posing such a question. “You don’t need a white student union, Jace!” she yells.
Referencing his so-called “white privilege,” a common progressive term with no apparent quantifiable meaning, the teacher raises her voice, “You get everything!”
The second portion of the video shows Piro, on a separate occasion, going off on parents for daring to question her distance-teaching methods. According to a report from Fox News, the broader issue at hand for Piro is parents’ “collective push to end remote learning and return children to their classrooms full time.”
“Piro, who teaches English, appears to be referencing an ongoing lawsuit launched by a coalition of parents against Gov. Gavin Newsom and six North Country school districts seeking eased COVID restrictions and an accelerated return to physical classrooms, though local unions say doing so would constitute judicial overreach,” the Fox News report said.
“If your parent wants to talk to me about their profession and their opinion on their profession, I would love to hear that,” the irritated English teacher says via Zoom to the high school students.
“However, if your parent wants to come talk to me about how I’m not doing a good enough job in distance learning based on what you need as an individual? Just dare them to come at me,” she threatens. “Because I am so sick to my stomach of parents trying to tell educators how to do their job.”
According to Piro, questioning someone’s teaching methods is akin to questioning your doctor’s medical advice.
“I have never once gone to a doctor’s appointment and tried to tell my medical health provider how to treat me. You know why?” she posed. “Because I know nothing about that! I didn’t get my degree in medicine!”
“I am going off,” Piro acknowledged. “I’m sorry.”
At least one parent from the class has blasted Piro for her behavior. “She’s a bully,” she wrote in “Open SM Schools” private Facebook group, according to Fox News. “These rants were so often my child said he “tuned her out” and was just trying to get thru the class…this is exactly what’s wrong with education and if the school district sweeps this then they are just as responsible.”
“These poor kids have endured so much. I held onto the video for 3 months and hardly told a soul fearing retaliation…I shared it with some of my close friends a few weeks ago when I saw her behavior was continuing this term and I felt awful for not standing up for these kids sooner,” she added.
In February, board members on the Oakley Unified Elementary School District Board of Trustees were caught making disparaging remarks about parents in an online meeting, as reported by The Daily Wire.
Board member Kim Beede, for example, said on video that she’d “f*** up” a parent for leaving a comment about her. “Are we alone?” Beede asked. “B****, if you’re gonna call me out, I’m gonna f*** you up. Sorry, that’s just me.”
“They forget there’s real people on the other side of those letters that they’re writing,” said another board member, Lisa Brizendine. “They don’t know what we know behind the scenes, and it’s really unfortunate they want to pick on us because they want their babysitters back.”
