The Media Is Cheering Kamala Harris While She Avoids The Border. Would They Do The Same For Mike Pence?

Since President Joe Biden placed Vice President Kamala Harris “in charge” of the ongoing border crisis, the former California Senator has seemingly managed to do everything but visit the border.

Last week, Harris joined California governor Gavin Newsom in Oakland, California to tour a water treatment facility. Then, she left for Illinois to meet with the state’s governor, JB Pritzer, and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to discuss the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to reports, despite being Biden’s “point person” on the border crisis, Kamala Harris has yet to visit the border, share policy suggestions regarding the crisis, or hold a press conference to discuss plans or progress.

In many ways, the most insightful commentary we have received from the Vice President was when she cackled after she was asked in March when she would be visiting the border.

Of course, Harris has the benefit of an unquestioning media who remain quivering with adoration, regardless of the Vice President’s obvious inaction and arguable ineptitude.

For example, after visiting a bakery in Chicago — again, while she is supposed to be solving the border crisis — the press pool reported on her every move.

“Her favorite is German chocolate, and [she] gets that for her birthday each year, and her staff had pre-ordered a slice for her. The bakery’s specialty is caramel cake, and she said she was looking forward to that too,” they wrote.

Perhaps even more laughably, the Washington Post published an article in their “Home and Garden” section titled, “Vice President Harris is making her mark on the Washington-area crochet scene.”

“When Vice President Harris visited a woman-owned yarn shop in Alexandria last month, she mentioned a little-known fact about herself that left the fiber arts community a bit giddy,” the article began.

“The new vice president is a crocheter,” it continued.

Of course she is.

“I was raised by a mother who said ‘I am not going to let you sit in front of that television doing nothing.’ And so I have crocheted more afghans than I can tell you,” Harris reportedly said while visiting the store. “And our daughter is a knitter.”

Let’s play a game. Cast your mind back to March and April of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic had just started. The media had pivoted from parroting the Democrats’ old narrative — that we should all “come on down to Chinatown” — to their new narrative — that everything must shut down, or else we will all perish, and COVID-19 is Trump’s fault anyway.

During those weeks, then-Vice President Mike Pence was placed in charge of the COVID-19 response task force. He was a regular feature in COVID-related press briefings and announcements, and most notably, seemed at least focused on his role.

Now, let’s imagine that Mike Pence had spent those weeks gallivanting around the country, even finding time to go shopping at Hobby Lobby to fuel his love of crafts.

What are the chances the Washington Post would celebrate his passion for needlework or watercolors as the COVID-19 pandemic raged on, like they are doing for Kamala Harris as the migration crisis at the border continues to this day?
