Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) scoffed at calls from the GOP to cut the cost of Joe Biden’s massive infrastructure plan. On Thursday, the West Virginia lawmaker said Congress should not put limits on the amount to be spent on infrastructure.

This comes as Republicans are preparing their own proposal, which would cut the bill’s spending from the Democrats’ $4 trillion to $800 billion. Additionally, there’s push-back on where the money will come from.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) noted that she intends to draw a “red line” in raising corporate taxes to fund the infrastructure legislation.

“I voted for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act; it had the desired effect of bringing capital back into this country,” she stated. “No corporate burdens, higher wages lower unemployment, better diversity in the workforce than we’re ever seen, historic highs.”

Regardless, Manchin said Democrats will spend whatever it takes, “even $4 trillion as long as it is paid for.”
