1 person dead, 4 injured after shooting in downtown San Diego

A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting in Downtown San Diego. On Thursday evening, the San Diego Police Department responded to reports of multiple people shot in the city’s Gaslamp District.
The fatal shooting was in front of the Pendry at Fifth and J, then police say the shooter went north on Fifth and fired rounds a block away near Island Ave near Gaslamp Pizza, Callan Hotel. According to authorities, the suspect shot and killed one person in front of the Pendry hotel. After that encounter, the suspect had another confrontation with a group of people down the street and opened fire, which injured four people.
“There were a lot of witnesses around, that did follow and contacted the male,” SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said. “I believe there was a struggle when an officer caught up. When the officer did catch up, the struggle continued and the officer did have to deploy his taser.”

After being tased, the 30-year old suspect was detained at the scene. In the meantime, police are working to determine a motive for the shooting.
