Joe Biden spoke with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan amid his controversial decision to refer to the Armenian genocide as just that: “A genocide.”
The move was a controversial one as no president since Ronald Reagan has used the term “genocide” to describe the Ottoman Empire’s forced relocation and mass murdering of Armenians.
With Turkey’s cultural ties to the now-collapsed Ottoman Empire, Erdogan has rejected efforts by foreign countries to project this historic stain on Turkey.
Many now have said, Biden’s selective use of words could signal something bigger to come in U.S. foreign policy.
