After Splitting From Royal Family, Meghan Markle To Publish Children’s Book About Family Bonds
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, who, with Prince Harry quit the royal family last year will soon become a published author. She is releasing her first children’s book, “The Bench,” about the importance of family bonds on June 8.
Random House Children’s Books announced the book’s publication on Tuesday. As reported by the Associated Press, the book will be illustrated by award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson with Meghan narrating the audio version.
According to a statement about the book, the story is based on a poem that Meghan wrote for her husband, Prince Harry, on his first Father’s Day after the birth of their son, Archie.
“That poem became this story,” Meghan said. “Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.”
A description on the book’s Amazon website said that the book “beautifully captures the special relationship between father and son, as seen through a mother’s eyes. The book’s storytelling and illustration give us snapshots of shared moments that evoke a deep sense of warmth, connection, and compassion.”
It continued:
In The Bench, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, touchingly captures the evolving and expanding relationship between father and son and reminds us of the many ways that love can take shape and be expressed in a modern family.
Evoking a deep sense of warmth, connection, and compassion, The Duchess’s debut children’s book gives us a window into shared and enduring moments between a diverse group of fathers and sons—moments of peace and reflection, trust and belief, discovery and learning, and comfort and nurture.
Working in watercolor for the first time, Caldecott-winning, bestselling illustrator Christian Robinson expands on his signature style to bring joy and softness to the pages, reflecting the beauty of a father’s love through a mother’s eyes.
With a universal message, this thoughtful and heartwarming read-aloud is destined to be treasured by families for generations to come.
Meghan and Harry have become regular topics of discussion in American life after leaving the United Kingdom and splitting off of the royal family. Earlier this year, the couple participated in a bombshell interview with Oprah in which they accused members of the royal family of racism, reportedly further straining the bonds between Prince Harry and his own father, Prince Charles, and brother Prince William.
The couple has also detailed additional plans regarding their future after moving their family overseas. As The Daily Wire reported, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently announced their first Netflix series with Archwell Productions: “Heart of Invictus.”
According to HuffPost, the new show “will follow veterans who are competing in the Duke of Sussex’s Invictus Games as they train for Invictus Games The Hague, which will take place in 2022. Harry founded the games, which are a Paralympic-style multi-sport event for wounded service people, in 2014.”
In September of last year, shortly after Harry and Meghan’s separation from the Royal Family, the couple signed a multi-year “megawatt” deal with Netflix.
Prince Harry also announced that he took a job as the “Chief Impact Officer” for Silicon Valley mental health startup, Better Up.
“I intend to help create impact in people’s lives,” Prince Harry told the WSJ in an email, as reported by The Daily Wire. “Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-round better life.”
