Report: Kamala Harris Keeps A Running Tab On Reporters Who ‘Don’t Fully Understand’ Or ‘Appreciate’ Her

Vice President Kamala Harris (D) keeps a running list of reporters and journalists who “don’t fully understand or appreciate her life experience,” The Atlantic reported.

It appears the goal of the list is to keep Harris away from reporters she and her team have deemed unworthy of receiving an interview.

“The vice president and her team tend to dismiss reporters. Trying to get her to take a few questions after events is treated as an act of impish aggression. And Harris herself tracks political players and reporters whom she thinks don’t fully understand her or appreciate her life experience. (She often mentions an episode in which a Washington Post reporter mistook the cheer of the historic Black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha for ‘screeches,’ I was told.),” the outlet indicated. “She particularly doesn’t like the word cautious, and aides look out for synonyms too. Carefulguarded, and hesitant don’t go over well. But she continues to retreat behind talking points and platitudes in public, and declines many interview requests and opportunities to speak for herself (including for this article).”

According to The Atlantic, television producers have had to weigh the pros and cons of sending a reporter to meet with the vice president “give how little usable material they get out of it.”

It’s not surprising Harris and her team keep tabs on what journalists are reporting and how the vice president is covered. Any time the vice president is asked a question that makes her uncomfortable or she talks about a subject she’s not well-versed on, she cackles awkwardly.

We all witnessed it in January when she swore in three new Democratic senators, including her replacement, Alex Padilla.

“That was very weird,” she laughed after reading her name.

Harris cackled when asked if she would be visiting the southern border.

“Um, not today,” Harris laughed. “But, um, I have before and I’m sure I will again.”

She did it in March when talking about parents struggling to find daycare because schools are closed.

This is a defense mechanism the vice president relies on when she is uncomfortable and doesn’t know what to say. Of course, she’s going to limit what reporters can and will ask her questions. It means she knows the type of questions – if any – the reporter will ask. It means she has an idea of what to expect and whether or not she will be caught off guard.

In many ways, this is a way for Harris’ staff to pre-screen questions without directly coming out and asking a reporter what questions they would like to ask the vice president. It is a way of keeping Harris out of awkward predicaments that can be used against her down the road, especially when she laughs at situations that deserve a sober response.
