Colleges Across America Hosting Leftist Icons For Commencement: Fauci, Buttigieg, Kamala And More
For decades, American academia has openly leaned to the political Left.
Beyond using pedagogy that favors the Leftist worldview on sociology, economics, education, history, and a host of other disciplines, academics donate to Democrats over Republicans at a rate of 95 to 1. For instance, at Dartmouth College — an Ivy League school — 99.5% of professors who contributed to political campaigns in the 2020 election cycle cut their checks for Democrats.
The trend often continues with universities’ choices of commencement speakers. Although only one conservative will address any of the nation’s top 100 schools this spring, prominent liberals and Leftists will clinch at least one-third of the most coveted graduation addresses.
Here are five of the most questionable choices in commencement speakers from top universities.
Dr. Anthony Fauci
Dr. Anthony Fauci — the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — is slated to address members of the class of 2021 at Vanderbilt University, Emory University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A University of North Carolina statement praised Fauci for “diligently advising the Biden administration and previously the Trump administration on public health measures to reduce COVID-19 transmission.” Emory President Gregory Fenves likewise hailed Fauci as a hero: “During the past year, Dr. Fauci’s name has become synonymous with truth, clarity and medical expertise. As chief physician to our country in the midst of a pandemic, he has become one of the most trusted voices in medicine for millions of Americans.”
Contrary to the universities’ claims, Fauci has held several contradictory positions on mask-wearing over the past year. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fauci insisted that masks were almost entirely unnecessary for the general public. For the next several months, he pivoted between advising Americans to wear a mask, wear a mask even after being vaccinated, and wear two masks.
BLM Co-Founder Alicia Garza
Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza will deliver commencement addresses for the University of California at San Diego.
A university statement highlighted Alicia Garza’s “commitment to health equity and rights for domestic workers as well as ending police violence, racism and violence against transgender and gender nonconforming people of color,” which has “made a significant impact on the lives of many in our nation and around the world.”
Apart from bringing the tenets of critical race theory and intersectionality into the American mainstream, Black Lives Matter riots egged on by Garza inflicted billions of dollars in property damage over the past year — easily ranking among the most expensive insurance events in United States history.
Pete Buttigieg
United States Secretary of Transportation and rising Democratic Party star, Pete Buttigieg, will deliver the commencement address at Harvard University’s Kennedy School.
Kennedy School Dean Douglas Elmendorf explained in a statement that Buttigieg “is a principled leader who has shown a commitment to thoughtful policy analysis and active political engagement as well as skill and determination in getting things done.”
Harvard has shown a high degree of favor to the Buttigiegs. Despite his lack of experience in politics, the prestigious university tapped Chasten Buttigieg — Pete Buttigieg’s husband — to work as a fellow at Harvard during the fall 2020 semester. He received a free two-bedroom apartment in Cambridge for the duration of his fellowship.
Kamala Harris
Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to deliver the graduation address for the United States Naval Academy.
The commencement slot typically rotates among the Vice President, President, and Secretary of Defense. As Navy Times reported, President Biden addressed Naval Academy graduates twice as Vice President under Barack Obama.
Harris’ speech, however, will occur in the wake of many national defense failures for the Biden administration. Israel is experiencing a renewed barrage of rocket attacks from Hamas one month after the Biden White House restored aid to Palestinian groups. Likewise, the southern border is experiencing an unprecedented influx of illegal immigrants following Biden’s inauguration — a situation that Kamala Harris is presently supposed to be overseeing.
Additionally, Harris encouraged Black Lives Matter riots in the summer of 2020 by asking Americans to support the Minnesota Freedom Fund — a foundation which later provided bail money to free six men accused of domestic violence.
Ayanna Pressley
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) — a member of the “Squad” — will speak to graduates at Boston University.
Described as a “trailblazing politician” by Boston University’s official news outlet, Rep. Pressley recently delivered remarks on the floor of the House of Representatives that portrayed Israel as an oppressive power.
“Last summer, when Black Lives Matter protestors took to the streets to demand justice, they were met with force,” she said. “They faced tear gas, rubber bullets, and a militarized police just as our Palestinian brothers and sisters are facing in Jerusalem today. Palestinians are being told the same thing as black folks in America — there is no acceptable form of resistance.”
