Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has argued the problems at the U.S.-Mexico border have extended past the surge in illegal immigration. On Sunday, Cruz took to Twitter to reiterate his concerns that Joe Biden’s weak policies regarding border security have been prohibiting legal border crossings.

The Republican senator shared a video of his comments from the Senate floor, where he argued that border cities with commercial ports have felt the sting of Biden’s neglect as businesses continue to suffer.

“Border communities are suffering immensely right now because important land ports of entry….remain closed,” he explained.  “To every one except those deemed essential traffic.”

Cruz went on to point out that Biden’s definition of non-essential travel included people who come into the U.S. to shop, visit their families and engage in other economically beneficial activities. He slammed the Biden administration for shutting down trade and tourism with the closure of land ports of entry, while allowing illegal immigrants to “stream across the border and be released in our communities.”

Meanwhile, the White House’s policy states crossings at land ports of entry is closed to such travel until June 21 due to the pandemic.
