The national debate over school mask mandates has intensified as students began to prepare for in-person learning this fall. According to reports on Sunday, a growing number of parents have become frustrated with government messaging on face covering requirements for children aged twelve and under.
Last week, Joe Biden said the CDC would recommend mask requirements for those twelve and under because they have not been eligible for the COVID vaccine. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics said all students older than two should wear masks regardless of their vaccination status.
LAWSUIT FILED!! Apparently it takes a judge to order California to follow the science. We must stop punishing our children with unnecessary masks, quarantines and testing.#LETTHEMBREATHE pic.twitter.com/1GZy7boQEJ

At a recent school board meeting in Southern California, parents gathered to voice their concern.
“Frankly, it’s abuse and if somebody wants to allow their child to wear a mask, that’s up to them,” one parent expressed. “I just don’t believe it should be enforced.”
According to the CDC, there have been less than 500 deaths among children from COVID-19. Schools in the U.S. were advised to open for in-person learning this fall, but their mandates have remained unclear.
