Joe Biden has taken continued aim at American manufacturing with more regulations on the auto industry. The Democrat signed an executive order at a press conference on Thursday, which outlined an objective for car manufacturers to make electric vehicles roughly half of U.S. sales by the end of 2030 as well as improve gas mileage and cut tailpipe pollution by model year 2026.

“You see that sucker over there? Zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds. It’s all electric,” he stated. “They’re a vision of the future that is now beginning to happen. A future of the automobile industry that is electric, battery electric, plug in hybrid electric, fuel cell electric.”

Biden went on to claim his latest executive order would create union jobs because the new batteries these electric vehicles require would need to be built.

“Our Build Back Better plan makes the largest investment of research and development in generations. This will help innovate, manufacture and build supply chains for batteries, semi conductors, those small computer chips,” he explained. “Electric trucks and cars are going to be even more reliant as we move forward.”

Biden then appeared all too eager to say he was rolling back President Trump’s more relaxed government regulations on emissions.

He went on to say, “I’m following through on the campaign commitment to reverse the previous administrations short sighted rollback of vehicle emissions and efficiency standards.”

While it’s unclear how this order will impact the cost of vehicles for everyday Americans, Biden dismissed concerns and instead bragged about the news that he will be test driving the first electric corvette.
