The Taliban, a terrorist group that has massacred the Afghan people, executed civilians, harbored al Qaeda, mandated sharia law, and oppressed women, wants to fight climate change.
Taliban leader Abdul Qahar Balkhi told Newsweek on Monday the world should recognize the Taliban, which reasserted control over Afghanistan after President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal, because the world has “to tackle the challenges not only facing us but the entire humanity,” which include “world security and climate change.”
“We hope not only to be recognized by regional countries but the entire world at large as the legitimate representative government of the people of Afghanistan,” Balkhi said.
The Taliban’s calls for environmentalism and international brotherhood come as the terrorist group tries to persuade Western nations to look past its violent history. During the group’s 1996-2001 rule of Afghanistan, it burnt thousands of acres of fertile land as part of its “scorched-earth” offensive, massacred civilians, starved the Afghan people, committed genocide against minorities, sold women into sexual slavery, and protected the terrorists who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks.
The United Nations has found that the Taliban has already begun committing “summary executions” of civilians, recruiting child soldiers, and trampling on women’s rights since it toppled the Afghan government a week ago.
The Taliban’s sudden commitment to the fight against climate change has also prompted questions. Washington Free Beacon reporter Joe Simonson asked on Twitter, “Most importantly, will the Taliban join the Paris climate agreement?”
