La. man faces murder charges in connection with deadly gas station shooting

An investigation is underway after a Louisiana man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation at a gas station. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, 20-year-old Walter Sippio turned himself in and surrendered his weapon in connection to the death of 36-year-old Dwayne Nosacka.

The incident happened on Friday when Nosacka reportedly confronted Sippio for cutting the line at a Chevron gas station in Metairie. Officials said the suspect then fired at Nosacka claiming he was defending himself. However, authorities found no evidence to back the claim.

“There was no sign of a physical argument between the parties,” said Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto. “There was a verbal argument and the suspect went back to his car, pulled and pointed a gun at the victim who put his hands up before the suspect fire.”

Nosacka was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. Authorities said the shortage of fuel and supplies as a result of Hurricane Ida has caused emotions to run high in Louisiana, as many people rely on gas-powered generators for electricity.

“This is a senseless killing. No one should be dying over gas,” said Lopinto.

Sippio is being charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
