Alec Baldwin has broke his silence after a prop gun misfired on the set of his latest film “Rust” in New Mexico, killing one crew member.
On Friday, Baldwin said “there are no words to convey” his shock and sadness regarding this tragic accident. Baldwin was holding a prop gun that discharged while filming a scene Thursday, causing the death of 42-year-old Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins.
The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement that Hutchins and Souza “were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor.”
The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also shot and was released from the hospital Friday morning.
“The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones,” said Rust Movie Productions LLC, the production company behind the film. “We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation. We will be providing counseling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.”
Baldwin took to Twitter to confirm he’s in touch with Hutchins’ husband and is offering support to him and his family. No one has been arrested for the incident and Baldwin is said to be fully cooperating with police in the investigation.
