Donald Trump touts Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger’s (R-Ill.) decision to not seek reelection. In response to the congressman’s announcement on Friday, Trump issued a statement saying “two down, eight to go.”

Kinzinger is the second of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump and later announced their retirement. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio) made a similar announcement in September.

Kinzinger has been highly criticized by the GOP for his impeachment vote and the criticism only escalated when he joined the House committee in charge of investigating the Jan. 6 protest. In his announcement, he hinted at other political plans.

“It has also become increasingly obvious that in order to break the narrative, I cannot focus on both a reelection to congress and a broader fight nationwide,” he said. “I want to make it clear, this isn’t the end of my political future, but the beginning.”

Kinzinger has served 12 years in the House and his term will end in January. He’s expected to continue working for his Country First Political Action Committee.
