Ben Cardin’s office is engaged in a race to the bottom
Senator Ben Cardin’s Aide Engages in Controversial Behavior
When Ben Cardin announced his impending retirement from the Senate in May, the Maryland Democrat expressed his “profound thanks” to ”the most dedicated staff in all of Congress.” For one staffer, that dedication has been shown in unconventional ways.
On Friday afternoon, a report in the Spectator revealed that a Cardin aide maintained a public Twitter account to which he posted pornographic photos and videos, including one taken in a Senate hearing room. That staffer, a political operative with knowledge of the posts told the Washington Free Beacon, is Cardin legislative aide Aidan Maese-Czeropski, who reportedly posted obscene images under the pseudonym “Andre.”
As it turns out, the same staffer accosted Rep. Max Miller (R., Ohio) earlier this week and let loose an anti-Semitic rant, according to the congressman.
This is not Maese-Czeropski’s first time in the limelight. President Joe Biden featured the Cardin staffer in a 2020 campaign ad, prompting thanks from Maese-Czeropski’s mother.
“Thank you for including my son, Aidan Maese-Czeropski, in your thoughtful message to everyone who has supported you,” the staffer’s mother said in a November 2020 post. ”He has worked tirelessly with the DNC of Virginia. Congratulations to All!!”
Maese-Czeropski is the same congressional staffer who confronted Jewish congressman Max Miller to say, “Free Palestine,” Miller told the Daily Caller.
Cardin’s office has not addressed the reports and did not return a request for comment. As of Friday morning, the pornographic Twitter account that appears to belong to Maese-Czeropski was public. By Friday afternoon, the account was locked.
One photo posted to the account apparently shows Maese-Czeropski in a Senate hearing room, where he is bent over on his hands and knees wearing nothing but a jock strap. In a video version reported by the Caller, the same man is shown receiving anal sex.

Maese-Czeropski also put his boldness on display when he approached Miller. The Republican congressman told the Free Beacon in an interview that the staffer made a beeline toward him outside of a Capitol complex coffee shop, where he expressed his pride—this time toward the Palestinian people.
“We’re just having a casual conversation, and out of nowhere, this guy beelines up to me visibly shaking—he’s very upset in my presence because he’s a snowflake,” Miller said Wednesday. “And he just comes right back up to me and was like, ‘Free Palestine.’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’ … I’m not going to give him a reaction because that’s what he wants.”
What broader questions does this incident raise about the culture and behavior within Congress, and what steps should be taken to address them
Nti-israel-anonymous-twitter-account/”>confronted Rep. Max Miller earlier this year about his support for Israel, according to emails obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. In the emails, Maese-Czeropski referred to Miller as a “Zionist operative” and accused him of betraying his “people.”
The revelation of Maese-Czeropski’s controversial behavior has sparked outrage and calls for Cardin to take action. In response, a spokesperson for the senator issued a statement condemning Maese-Czeropski’s actions. “Senator Cardin categorically denounces the offensive and inappropriate behavior of his former aide,” the statement read. “Such behavior is not reflective of Senator Cardin’s values or the office he holds.”
While Cardin has distanced himself from Maese-Czeropski’s actions, questions remain about how this behavior went unnoticed for so long. Cardin is known for his advocacy on issues such as ethics reform and government transparency, raising concerns about whether his office adequately screens and supervises its staff.
Furthermore, this incident raises broader questions about the culture and behavior within Congress. The fact that a congressional staffer felt comfortable posting pornographic content and engaging in anti-Semitic rhetoric suggests a lack of accountability and a disregard for professional standards. It is imperative that congressional offices prioritize the ethical conduct of their staff members to maintain the public’s trust and confidence in our democratic institutions.
The controversy surrounding Maese-Czeropski also highlights the need for stricter guidelines and regulations regarding social media use by congressional staff. While individuals have the right to free speech, it is crucial that they understand the potential consequences of their online behavior, especially when it reflects poorly on their respective offices and the elected officials they represent.
In light of this incident, it is incumbent upon Senator Cardin and his colleagues in Congress to thoroughly review their hiring and monitoring processes to ensure that individuals of integrity and professionalism are selected for positions of public trust. Additionally, comprehensive training programs should be implemented to educate staff members on appropriate conduct and social media usage.
The actions of Aidan Maese-Czeropski are not an accurate reflection of the dedicated and hardworking individuals who serve in Congress. However, they serve as a reminder that those entrusted with public service must uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. The American people deserve elected officials and staff members who act with respect and decency, and it is essential that instances of misconduct such as this are swiftly addressed and rectified.
As Senator Cardin begins his retirement, it is crucial for him to take this opportunity to not only reflect on his own office’s practices but also to advocate for a stronger, more accountable Congress. By addressing this controversy head-on and implementing necessary reforms, Cardin can leave a lasting legacy of ethical leadership and ensure that incidents like this do not tarnish the reputation of Congress and its dedicated staff.
Ultimately, the controversy surrounding Senator Ben Cardin’s aide serves as a stark reminder that public officials and their staff must always prioritize the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. Only through consistent vigilance and commitment to these principles can our democracy thrive and succeed.
