Aaron Hernandez’s brother arrested for alleged school shooting plot.
The Brother of Aaron Hernandez Arrested for Allegedly Plotting School Shootings
The brother of Aaron Hernandez, the former NFL player convicted of murder in 2015, was arrested last week for allegedly plotting shootings at two college campuses.
Dennis “DJ” Hernandez, 37, was arrested for the fourth time this year when police became concerned that he was planning shootings at the campuses of Brown University and the University of Connecticut, according to arrest documents, WFSB reported. Bristol, Connecticut, police arrested Hernandez after several people came forward with concerns about his erratic behavior, according to the warrant.
Hernadez’s ex-girlfriend said that he drove to the college campuses to “map the schools out,” and she believes he was planning a school shooting, according to police. The woman said that Hernandez even went into several classrooms and buildings on the UConn campus. Hernandez, who was a star high school football player along with his brother Aaron, played quarterback and wide receiver at UConn, where Aaron originally committed before attending the University of Florida, the New York Post reported.
Police said that Hernandez sent threatening text messages about UConn to his ex-girlfriend and a family member.
“UConn program is going to pay unless I have a package deal and I get my estate and every single thing I have worked for. The coaches and university officials want to be selfish and selective about [expletive], well I am too. Very,” one message allegedly read. “They are going to get surprised. Love you, I would recommend remaining away from there because when I go I’m taking down everything and I don’t give a [expletive] who gets caught in the crossfire. I’ve died for [years] now and now its others peoples [sic] turn. I’m prepared to give my life so if I don’t get to see you on the outside know I love you always. Not all shootings are bad I’m realizing. Some are necessary for change to happen.”
Hernandez also allegedly made threatening posts on social media.
“Will I kill? Absolutely, I’ve warned my enemies to pay up front,” one post read, according to the arrest warrant.
Earlier this year, a judge ordered Hernandez to be re-arrested after he failed to appear in court on charges related to throwing a brick along with a note at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut.

“To all media outlets, It’s about time you all [realize] the [e]ffect media has on all family members,” the note said, according to police. “Since you’re a worldwide leader maybe you could lead how media and messages are delivered brick by brick. Clean it up! Yours truly, Dennis J. Hernandez.”
Hernandez’s brother Aaron was convicted in the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player. Aaron committed suicide in 2017 while serving a life sentence.
Hernandez wrote a book in 2018 titled “The Truth About Aaron: My Journey to Understand My Brother” where he discusses their upbringing with a violent father and Aaron’s increasingly bizarre behavior before he was arrested and charged with murder.
