Former friend of accused Idaho killer says he was angered by women and a violent drunk.
A Troubled Past: Former Friend Reveals Disturbing Details About Suspected Idaho Killer
A former friend of the 28-year-old man suspected of killing four University of Idaho students has shed light on his troubled mindset and behavior. Jack Baylis, in an interview with Fox Nation’s Nancy Grace, disclosed that the suspect would often become “frustrated” with women and openly discuss his struggles with depression.
“We both felt frustrated when dating, especially when women would ‘ghost’ us,” Baylis revealed. Ghosting, the act of abruptly cutting off communication, left both men feeling disheartened.
The suspect, who has been charged with the murders of Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen, allegedly followed the female victims on Instagram. This disturbing revelation has raised concerns about the extent of his obsession.
According to Baylis, the suspect would frequently reach out to him, expressing feelings of depression and a distorted sense of purpose. Baylis also disclosed that the suspect had a tendency to become aggressive when intoxicated, to the point where friends would hide his car keys. Additionally, he admitted that the suspect engaged in the use of illicit substances.
The father of one of the victims, Kaylee Goncalves, expressed his dismay at the suspect’s alleged special treatment in prison. Steve Goncalves claimed that the suspect was receiving unprecedented privileges, including multiple suits, special meals, and access to a computer.
“I’ve been informed that his pretrial privileges are unlike anything seen before in Idaho’s history,” Goncalves stated.
However, NewsNation’s Brian Entin refuted these claims, stating that the suspect was not receiving any preferential treatment compared to other inmates. Entin clarified that the suspect had limited computer access solely for reviewing case-related documents, a privilege granted to all inmates.
It was previously reported that the jail was accommodating the suspect’s vegan diet, but Entin confirmed that he was only being provided with rice and beans.
For his safety and the safety of others, the suspect is being kept isolated from other prisoners, as revealed by a source close to the investigation.
The suspect’s trial date remains uncertain, as the original October start date has been postponed. However, court documents indicate that DNA found on a knife sheath at the crime scene has been matched to the suspect.
In an attempt to establish an alibi, the suspect’s attorneys claimed that he was out driving alone on the night of the murders. They stated that he often went for late-night drives, and on the night in question, he was driving between the late hours of November 12 and the early hours of November 13, 2022.
Video footage played a crucial role in narrowing down the timeframe of the crime. The footage captured a white Hyundai Elantra without a front license plate, which was seen near the off-campus residence multiple times before and after the murders. The vehicle was later observed traveling at high speed away from the crime scene, heading towards Pullman, Washington, where the suspect attended Washington State University.
Further video evidence from the WSU campus showed the same vehicle leaving the area and heading towards Moscow, Idaho, where the murders occurred. Police were able to link the suspect to the vehicle through previous traffic stops and the suspect’s registration of the car in Washington, which took place five days after the murders.
In a previous filing, the suspect’s defense attorneys raised the possibility that DNA found at the crime scene may have been planted by law enforcement.
“The State’s argument asks this Court and [the suspect] to assume that the DNA on the sheath was placed there by [the suspect], and not someone else during an investigation that involves hundreds of law enforcement members and at least one undisclosed lab,” the defense attorneys argued.
As the investigation continues, more disturbing details emerge about the suspect’s troubled past, shedding light on the events leading up to the tragic loss of four young lives.
