He was arrested in Pennsylvania shortly after the incident and comes from a wealthy background in Baltimore, Maryland. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 21 in New York.

Luigi Mangione, the suspect accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last year, will now be using nearly $290,000 in donations to help the legal defense in his murder case.
A group of volunteers created the December 4 [D4] Legal Committee to support Mangione. It has garnered a following from those who felt he was sending a message to the healthcare insurance industry by shooting Thompson, a married father of two, in Manhattan.
More than 10,000 individual donations have been raised to help Mangione who has been charged with first-degree murder, an act of terrorism, stalking, and other state and federal charges.
“Luigi is aware of the fund and very much appreciates the outpouring of support. My client plans on utilizing it to fight all three of the unprecedented cases against him,” Karen Friedman Agnifilo, Mangione’s lead defense attorney, said in a statement on Monday.
The 26-year-old was caught by police in Pennsylvania days after the shooting of Thompson.
The FBI has described Mangione’s alleged plot as “a cavalier attitude towards humanity.”
Mangione grew up in a wealthy prominent family in the Baltimore area of Maryland and had been living in California and Hawaii prior to the incident.
He is slated to appear in New York state court on Feb. 21.
