“Boardwalk Empire” star Steve Buscemi, 66, was attacked last week in New York City when an unidentified man went up and punched him in the face in the middle of the day.

Buscemi was reportedly walking through the Kips Bay neighborhood of New York when the man hit him in the face, the New York Post reported. The assault happened shortly before noon on Wednesday, according to police.

“I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window, I saw him trip and fall backward,” a worker who witnessed the attack said. “He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him.”

Buscemi, a Brooklyn native and former FDNY firefighter, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after the assault. He suffered a swollen left eye and some injuries to his face but is otherwise alright, the actor’s representatives told the New York Post.

“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” his publicist announced in a statement on Sunday. “He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York.”

Buscemi’s attacker ran off after hitting the actor. Video surveillance released by the NYPD showed that his alleged attacker was a bearded man wearing black sweatpants, a blue t-shirt, a baseball cap, and white sneakers.
