Priyanka Chopra revealed a failed nose surgery caused her severe depression.
Actress Priyanka Chopra Opens Up About Her Terrible Nose Job Experience
Actress Priyanka Chopra recently reflected on her terrible nose job experience and how it sent her into a “deep depression.”
“It was a dark phase,” the 40-year-old actress told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show Tuesday. Chopra said the routine procedure cost her three acting jobs and made her question her identity.
The Botched Surgery
The Indian star said she experienced a “lingering head cold,” and the doctor recommended surgery to have a polyp removed. But then, “this thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression,” she said.
Chopra went into detail about the experience in her 2020 memoir, “Unfinished.”
“While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me anymore,” she wrote, per ET Online.
The Aftermath
The “Citadel” star said the media dubbed her “Plastic Chopra” following the botched surgery. She said the nickname stuck over the years.
“It has followed me my entire professional life,” she wrote in the book. Later, the actress said she eventually made peace with her new look. “I’ve gotten accustomed to this face. Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I’ve made peace with this slightly different me. This is my face. This is my body. I might be flawed, but I am me.”
Rebuilding Confidence
Chopra told Stern she thought her career “was over before it started.” But then her dad convinced her to get corrective surgery.
“I was terrified of that, but he was like, ‘I will be in the room with you.’ He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence,” she said.
Chopra also credited Bollywood director Anil Sharma with helping her restart her career.
“I was supposed to play this lead, and I was shifted to a supporting character. [Sharma] was very kind,” she told Stern. “He, while the tide was against me, said, ‘It will be a small part but give it your all.’ And I did.’”
Conclusion
Chopra’s story is a reminder that even celebrities can struggle with self-image and the pressure to look a certain way. It’s important to remember that we are all unique and beautiful in our own way, flaws and all.
