Former Republican Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger Expresses Interest in Taking on Sen. Ted Cruz in Texas
In a recent interview on the FiveThirtyEight Politics podcast, former Republican Illinois Representative Adam Kinzinger revealed his desire to challenge Senator Ted Cruz in Texas, now that he resides in the Lone Star State.
“I would love to run against Ted Cruz,” Kinzinger enthusiastically stated during the podcast.
Kinzinger, who was one of the ten Republican members to vote for the impeachment of former President Donald Trump, described Cruz as “the most complete con artist in politics.” He expressed his eagerness to confront Cruz publicly, emphasizing how amazing it would be.
However, Kinzinger acknowledged that his aspiration to compete against Cruz would have to wait for the time being.
“I would like to, but right now, I’m not in a position to,” Kinzinger explained. “I’ve got a young kid, and I need to take some time to recover from the past couple of years. But if the right moment comes along, absolutely.”
When asked if he would consider reentering politics and running in six years, Kinzinger responded with a “potentially.”
Kinzinger recently decided not to seek reelection in 2022, recognizing the uphill battle he would face in his heavily Trump-supporting district. In addition to his impeachment vote, he served on the Jan. 6 committee, which conducted investigations into the Capitol riot and held public prime-time hearings featuring crucial witness testimonies.
Currently, Kinzinger is actively promoting his new book, titled Renegade: Defending Democracy and Liberty In Our Divided Country.
