Adam Schiff raises record-breaking $8.1 million in fundraising following Russiagate censure.
Adam Schiff Raises Record $8.1 Million for Senate Campaign
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) announced that his campaign for the U.S. Senate has raised an impressive $8.1 million during the second quarter. This comes after his removal from the House Intelligence Committee and the subsequent censure related to the Russiagate controversy.
In a post on social media, Schiff expressed his gratitude, stating, “Last quarter, we raised over $8.1 million—with an average contribution of just $34. We’re in this fight together.”
Schiff faced censure on June 21 in a party-line vote in the Republican-controlled House. The resolution accused him of making false claims about former President Donald Trump’s involvement in Russiagate. Despite the censure, Schiff’s campaign manager, Brad Elkins, revealed that the second-quarter donations came from over 144,000 unique donors.
“When I say we are a grassroots campaign, I mean it!” Schiff exclaimed. He is currently running for the soon-to-be vacant Senate seat of retiring Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).
With this latest fundraising success, Schiff’s campaign now has $29.5 million cash on hand. This surpasses the previous record set by Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) of $7.2 million raised in the second quarter of 2021.
“It’s still very early, and while the polls will shift, Adam continues to lead in every critical metric,” said Elkins in a memo to Politico. “Our campaign continues to build significant advantages that will propel Adam forward.”
‘Trump is Threatening Me’
Schiff’s strong donation numbers indicate that portraying Trump as a threat to American democracy can be an effective fundraising strategy for Democrats. Schiff recently took to Twitter to complain about Trump attacking him on social media.
“Trump is threatening me on Truth Social again. For holding him accountable. In the House, I impeached him. In the Senate, I’ll keep fighting his assaults on our democracy,” Schiff tweeted.
Schiff shared a screenshot of Trump’s post, stating that the former president’s “obsession is the highest compliment.” He also asked for donations to support his Senate campaign, emphasizing his commitment to standing up to Trump and defending democracy.
While Schiff’s fundraising received support, it also faced criticism on Twitter. One user accused him of repeatedly lying and misleading the nation, calling for his resignation.
Schiff’s Continued Belief in Trump-Russia Collusion
Despite a recent report by special counsel John Durham, which concluded that there was no evidence of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia, Schiff remains convinced of the conspiracy.
“If you read Mr. Durham’s report, what he said is that there wasn’t evidence of collusion before they began the investigation. That’s obviously a very important distinction,” Schiff stated when asked about the report’s findings.
Schiff’s unwavering belief in Trump-Russia collusion has sparked debate and further discussion on the matter.
