In November, Schiff was reelected for a seventh term. He now represents California’s 30th Congressional District. He was a prominent lawmaker and chairman of the House Intelligence committee from 2019 to 2022. He also acted as a foil for Republicans in the first impeachment probe against President Donald Trump.

Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker, has stated that Schiff “openly lied to the American people” He abused his position as chairman of House Intelligence panel. In September 2019, Schiff enraged Republicans. grossly exaggerating This is the content of a phone conversation in which Trump allegedly coerced Volodymyr Zilensky, Ukraine’s President, to look into his 2020 rival Joe Biden. Later, he called his summary of Trump’s telephone conversation “a…” “parody.”
McCarthy, in retaliation to Schiff’s conduct removed McCarthy from the Intelligence committee of the 118th Congress.
Rep. Katie Porter, D-Calif. joined Schiff earlier this month in running for the seat.
Feinstein, at 89, has not announced her plans to run for reelection. She is the oldest senator currently serving and it is widely believed that she will announce in the next months that her intention to retire from office.
