Adult Swim Parts Ways With Justin Roiland Following Domestic Abuse Charges, Confirms “Rick and Morty” Will Continue in His Absence
A recent revelation has revealed that the Rick and Morty Adult Swim has announced that it will not be working with Justin Roiland as its creator after being charged with felony domestic abuse.
First reported by NBC News Roiland is now facing charges for his January 12th pre-trial appearance. “one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit” It stemmed from an incident that took place in Orange County, California three years back.
Despite not being able to release any details due to a protective court order, the Orange County District attorney filed a criminal complaint against Roiland and it was later obtained NBC News. Roiland is charged with assaulting an ex-girlfriend, but this information is still confidential.
Roiland was initially charged in May. Roiland was quickly arrested and released on $50,000 bail in August.
Roiland was then arraigned on October 7, where he filed a plea of ‘Not Guilty’.
In a statement provided to NBC News following their initial report, Roiland’s attorney T. Edward Welbourn declared, “We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as swiftly as possible.”
The court approved Roiland’s protective order request from an unknown individual at his arraignment. “not to harass, threaten or surveil the person named in the protective order.”
“Roiland cannot go within 100 feet of the person, according to the order, which also ordered Roiland to turn in any firearms he owned or possessed,” Added NBC News “The order lasts until October 2023.”
At the time of writing, no official date for the trial has been set. However, while the courts have been slow to act, Roiland’s most prominent employer has not.
Adult Swim, twelve days after the news of his domestic abuse accusations became publicized, announced via its official Twitter account that it had “ended [our] association with Justin Roiland”.
It was then that the network assured its fans that, despite losing its co-creator/lead voice actor, it will continue to be a great network. “Rick and Morty will continue”.
“The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on Season 7,” They were also added.
Soon after, the Roiland-founded Squanch Games announced that they had followed suit. “On January 16th, 2023, Squanch Games received Justin Roiland’s resignation.”
