Secretary of State Antony Blinken faced tough questions from Afghan evacuees after Joe Biden’s failure to secure stability and freedom in Afghanistan. During a meeting in Qatar on Tuesday, members of the Afghan all-female robotics team asked Blinken what the Biden administration planned to do to address human rights violations by the Taliban.
“We would love to ask you to see what’s your plan?” One woman questioned. “What’s the U.S. government’s plan for the future of the millions of the kids and children and women in Afghanistan?”
In response, Blinken offered vague words of support.
“The story you’ve already told by what you’re doing about the importance of girls and women engaging in in science and technology, education more broadly, that sent a very powerful message all around the world, well beyond Afghanistan,” he stated. “I know you’re going to find ways to continue to do that.”

I was honored to meet several remarkable women & girls of the Afghan Robotics Team. Their journeys & STEM aspirations are inspiring. pic.twitter.com/wkv9a2ulV5

Blinken went on to reassure the evacuees the Taliban had promised to allow free travel in and out of Afghanistan as well as respect the rights of women.
