After Disappointing Season, Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Matt Ryan Says He’s Still Got “A Lot of Good Football in My Body”
Things didn’t go quite as planned in Indianapolis for former Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Matt Ryan. After being traded to The Colts Before the 2022 season, the offensive engineering team struggled and the engineer was fired late in the season.
Ryan and his team went 4-7-1, and were out of contention at the mid-season. Things were a rollercoaster ride for the 2016 NFL MVP. He led the Colts in a few thrilling victories, but posted the worst career numbers.
In 12 games, Ryan threw only 3,057 yards. He also threw 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Ryan fumbled 15 times in 2022, a record-breaking number. That’s a cardinal sin for any signal-caller.

This continues a pattern for Matt Ryan, as he hasn’t started for a team with more than 7 wins in a season since 2017.
In spite of this, Indianapolis’ management believed that Taylor would be a good pairing with Jonathan Taylor, an elite running back. This could have led to Taylor being paired with a highly skilled offense. Taylor did not play in all 11 games, rushing for only 861 yards. Taylor was supposed to be a bell cow ball carrier. He only made it to the end zone four times.
Now, the franchise will release him. Matt Ryan will be released from Atlanta for the first time since 2008. Despite whispers that he might be contemplating retirement, the veteran QB says he’s still got a lot of passes left in his right arm.
“I still love playing,” Ryan told Stephen Holder ESPN on the future. “I’m obviously not committed to anything. Got to see how it shakes out. But I still love playing and still feel like, honestly, there’s a lot of good football in my body. So, we’ll see what happens.”

Matt Ryan is most likely to get dressed up. Somewhere Next year will be his contract.
Money is a key component of professional sports. And in this situation, it’s screaming at the top of its lungs. Ryan has too many things on the table that it can’t just walk away.
If Matty Ice retires, he doesn’t get his $12 million in guaranteed salary. If he’s cut, he gets every bit of it. That’s definitely going to happen, because if the Colts don’t cut him before March 17, he will be owed another $17.2 million fully guaranteed. Both parties indicated that their relationship is over despite the numbers.
Once he’s finally released, Ryan will be free to sign anywhere he chooses. It is possible that Ryan will initially be taken in as a backup to anyone he wants.
At the same time, the quarterback carousel in the NFL continues, so there’s a strong possibility that the former Super Bowl starter could be leading a squad at some point in 2023.
