Attorney General Merrick Garland has eased restrictions placed on the use of consent decrees, revoking a memo by President Trump.

In his own memo to U.S. attorneys and DOJ leaders on Friday, Garland said it will be easier for prosecutors to use consent decrees to force changes on police departments.

Democrats argued the Justice Department needs more freedom to conduct probes into law enforcement agencies.

Reports say under the Biden administration, the Justice Department is shifting its focus to civil rights issues and criminal justice overhauls.
