Bill Gates predicts that AI will ultimately be” As Good a Tutor as Any Human.”
Although artificial intelligence ( AI ) may not yet be sophisticated enough to replace teachers, Bill Gates believes that day is quickly approaching.
At the ASU + GSV Summit in San Diego on April 18, the Microsoft co-founder stated that” the AIs will reach that ability to be as good a tutor as any human ever could.”
He continued,” There are sufficient test set of those tasks being completed well for the training to be completed. Therefore, I would say that is a pretty interesting step, which is to participate in the conversation by assisting them in understanding what they are missing. We’re’re not that far away, either.
Gates’ remarks were made during a larger discussion with Jessie Woolley-Wilson, CEO of DreamBox Learning, about the upcoming role of technology in education.
” AI has, ever since the focus changed to machine learning, it’s’s accomplished some unbelievable milestones ,” Gates told Woolley-Wilson. It may listen to conversation and discover statement better than humans, you know. Compared to humans, it is better at recognizing images and videos. It was largely ineffective in the areas of reading and writing. You couldn’t study a biology text, for example, and forward the AP exam.
Gates pointed out that while earlier versions of AI were unable to replicate human understanding, newer programs, like OpenAI’s’s GPT-4, which is supported by Microsoft, had started to close the gap.
The recent breakthrough we have has more to do with reading and writing— this incredible ability to say,” Write a letter … like Einstein or Shakespeare would have written this thing ,” and to be at least 80 % of the time very stunned by it.
Threat to Humanity
In actuality, industry analysts have been astounded as well as, in many cases, alarmed by recent developments in the development of AI, fearing the results for technology will have on society.
In a letter dated March 22 that has more than 27,500 signatures and includes dozens of AI experts, it is warned that” AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose serious risks to society and humanity, as shown by intensive research and acknowledged by base AI labs.”
The letter’s’s signatories called for an immediate six-month pause in the training of more advanced AI systems as society struggles with how to ensure their safety, accusing AI creators of participating in an” out – of-control race” to develop” ever more powerful digital minds that no one— not even their Creators — can understand, predict, or reliably control.”
Elon Musk, the Director of Tesla and another tech baron who has been vocal about his worries about AI’s’s capabilities, was one of those signatories.
Insofar as it has the possible, no matter how small, AI is more serious than, say, poorly managed aircraft design, production maintenance, or poor car production.
