Over 1,300 flights canceled due to Northeast storms.
Airlines Cancel Over 1,300 Flights Amidst Northeast Storms
Airlines, both domestic and abroad, have canceled more than 1,300 flights coming in and out of the Northeast due to continuing storms.
According to FlightAware, at least 1,344 flights within, in, or out of the United States have been canceled as of Sunday afternoon. Republic, JetBlue, United, and American Airlines are among the carriers affected.
Major U.S. Airlines Take a Hit
United Airlines and American Airlines, two of the country’s major airline companies, have canceled 118 and 107 flights, respectively.
Most of the cancellations are from Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport in New York.
Additionally, over 5,930 total flights have been delayed within, in, or out of the U.S.
Severe Weather Causes Ground Stops

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for “excessive rainfall” in several Northeastern states, with New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland being “under the highest threat.”
Some areas have already experienced significant rainfall, with Bay Shore, New York, recording six inches and Danbury, Connecticut, recording four inches.
In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for areas in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Rhode Island on Sunday morning through 3 p.m. EDT.
