Airport worker killed after being sucked into jet engine on Texas tarmac.

Airport Worker Dead After Being ‘Ingested’ Into Jet Engine on Tarmac in Texas

A tragic incident occurred at the San Antonio International Airport on Friday night, resulting in the death of a ground worker who was sucked into a jet engine. The worker, employed by Unifi Aviation, a company that contracts with Delta for ground crew operations, was ingested into the engine of a Delta Airlines jet while it was taxiing to the gate.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the incident. According to a statement from the NTSB, the worker was sucked into the engine at 10:25 p.m. while the Delta Flight 1111 had one engine running. Delta Airlines is cooperating with the investigation.

The name of the employee has not been released. The accident caused significant disruptions for airline passengers, with many flights being rescheduled.

Unifi Aviation expressed deep sadness over the loss of their employee and extended their condolences to the family. They emphasized that the incident was unrelated to their operational processes, safety procedures, and policies.

The San Antonio International Airport also released a statement expressing their condolences and stating that they are working with authorities as the investigation begins.

This unfortunate incident is the second of its kind in the past six months. On New Year’s Eve, Courtney Edwards, a ground crew member at Montgomery Regional Airport, was also sucked into the engine of an American Airlines regional carrier’s jet. Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of American, was fined $15,625 in connection with that incident.

Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
