Alex Murdaugh Trial: Accused Killer’s Surviving Son Pokes Holes In Prosecution’s Arguments
Alex Murdaugh’s surviving son Buster was called to testify for his defense on Tuesday. Buster tried to expose the prosecution’s arguments that Alex killed Maggie and her youngest son Paul.
Buster, the prosecution’s witness, explained to Alex some points that were made in an attempt to make Alex guilty. To get rid of evidence such as the two guns that were used to murder his family, Alex was suggested by the prosecution to have parked his car behind his mother’s house on the night of the murders. Buster on the other hand stated that his family parked regularly behind his grandparents’ home and that this was not unusual, according to the Associated Press reported.
In addition, Alex claimed that his phone was left at the family’s Colleton County South Carolina residence so that it didn’t show that he was present at the crime scene. Buster, however, testified that Alex’s father sometimes lost his phone and that cell service was not available at his home.
Buster also stated that his father was his witness. “was destroyed” After Paul and Maggie were assassinated.
“He was heartbroken. I walked through the door, I saw him and I gave him a hug,” According to the AP, Buster spoke on the stand.
Buster also disbelieved the testimony of the family’s homekeeper, who said that it seemed strange that Alex’s clothes were left outside the shower after the killings. Buster stated that his father used to take showers in hot summers.
Further, he testified that the gun found on the property was the “safety on” He also stated that he had never loaded shotguns with a shell of larger buckshot or a shell of smaller birdshot, which investigators believe is what led to the death of his brother Paul.
The prosecution has now dropped its case. The defense will argue that Alex did indeed murder his son and wife.
According to the prosecution, Alex allegedly hired an acquaintance from his family to kill him months after Maggie and Paul were killed. This was so Buster could get insurance money.
Murdaugh claimed that he was fixing a flat tire along a rural road and that a man approached him to help. He then shot Murdaugh in the head after he turned his face away.
“A real nice guy — acted like it,” Buzzfeed News reports that Murdaugh said to paramedics following the shooting, while they were treating him with a gunshot wound. reported. “I turned my head and, I mean, boom.”
The truth was revealed just days after Murdaugh’s roadside shooting.
Murdaugh acknowledged that he had hired Curtis, a man. “Eddie” Smith, to execute Murdaugh’s remaining son, Buster.
“I was in a very bad place,” Murdaugh spoke in a phone interview to investigators and said he was playing for jurors. “I thought it would be better for me not to be here anymore. I thought it would make it easier on my family for me to be dead.”
