Alfredo Sauce Spill In Tennessee Follows California Tomato Crash

Alfredo sauce covered a portion of an interstate in Memphis, Tennessee, Tuesday after an 18-wheeler crashed into a wall, prompting local authorities to shut down a portion of the highway.

Fox 13 reports the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the crash was reported at around 4:44 p.m. on the I-55 about 100 miles northeast of Memphis-proper.

“You can smell it! Memphis police confirm a tractor-trailer carrying Alfredo sauce spilled on I-55 near Riverside Boulevard,” Kate Bieri of Fox 13 Memphis said in a tweet.

Bieri tagged video footage of the white Alfredo sauce smeared between two bridges on the highway next to the demolished semi-trailer.

Commuters traveling southbound were limited to one lane until clean-up crews cleared the damage from the crash.

Memphis Police told Fox 13 that authorities transported one woman from the scene to the hospital in non-critical condition.

The Alfredo sauce incident comes less than 48 hours after California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials reported a big rig carrying tens of thousands of tomatoes while traveling on a Northern California interstate crashed into two vehicles, sending the fruit rolling out of the semi-trailer and creating a two-foot-deep red sea across the highway.

The tomato-covered highway soon became too slick for other vehicles to endure, causing a chain reaction of crashes, leading to seven vehicle accidents that left one person hospitalized with a broken leg and three others with minor injuries.

“Those tomato skins, man,” California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Tyhurst told The New York Times. “Once they hit the asphalt, it’s like walking on ice.”

One Twitter user aware of both sauce incidents responded to the Fox 13 video.

“There were tomato’s spilled yesterday all over the interstate,” @RevBruceCase wrote. “Coincidence? I think not.”
