Alina Habba says money ‘hemorrhaging’ to other countries will stop under Trump – Washington Examiner
Alina habba, the incoming counselor to President-elect Donald Trump, has expressed her views on the Biden administration’s financial aid practices, especially criticizing the outgoing president for providing what she described as excessive “bailouts” to other countries. In her comments on Fox News, habba highlighted a recent $500 million allocation to an Amazon rainforest preservation effort as an example of Biden’s spending. She emphasized that under Trump, such financial assistance would cease, advocating for a more nationalistic approach to international trade where the U.S. prioritizes its own interests. Habba pointed out the need for fairness in trade relations, stating that the U.S. should not continue to hand out money indiscriminately to other nations.
Alina Habba says money ‘hemorrhaging’ to other countries will stop under Trump
Alina Habba, the incoming counselor to President-elect Donald Trump, warned countries that they will not be given the “bailouts” that she said President Joe Biden has been giving right before he leaves office next month.
Habba, who previously worked as Trump’s lawyer during his legal battles, argued the current president has been passing out money “like it’s growing on trees,” referring to the Biden administration giving $500 million to an Amazon rainforest preservation effort last month. Habba assured the Trump administration would take the necessary action to put the United States “first,” arguing that international trade needs to be “fair” between the U.S. and other countries.
“We can’t be just handing out bailouts to every country that wants anything,” Habba said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, guest-hosted by Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz. “The Amazon wants a big check, ‘OK, let’s do it right before we get out of office.’ You know, that was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. But, Jason, we have a president who’s been on vacation for 40% of his presidency. Forty percent! So I don’t even think he’s checked in. But he has no problem spending American money, and it’s got to stop. The hemorrhaging has to stop.”
Habba added that tax reform and other factors need to be enacted “very quickly” to help the public. Her urge on enacting change quickly by the Trump administration mirrors what other major figures in the Republican Party have called for.
On the topic of Congress, Habba warned against “massive bills” attempting to “slip in money that shouldn’t be spent,” referencing how Congress included a pay raise in its initial 1,500-page spending bill earlier this month. She also contended there is a sense of fear in government due to the Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency holding people accountable.
Habba contended that the uptick in people talking to Trump at Mar-a-Lago, which she called “the winter White House,” is due to people knowing they will be held accountable with the Trump presidency.
“So if you’ve been messing around and taking money from our government, which is taxpayer dollars, you’re not going to be able to do it anymore,” Habba said. “There’s going to be a block, and there’s going to be checks and balances.”
Trump announced earlier this month that Habba would work in his administration as his presidential counselor. Habba was previously rumored to be in the running for White House press secretary, but she said she was uninterested in this position, which instead went to Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
